Love your blog!! I tried this recipe for the first time today and it never turned white in the whipping process. What did I do wrong?

It would definitely have a heavier feel to it as those oils and butters don’t absorb as readily. If you really want to use those ingredients then replacing some of the olive oil with a tablespoon of rosehip oil may help with the oily feel.

I wanted to try this recipe but I wanted to know if it is possible to use Olive oil with shea butter and beeswax. Would it be too greasy? If so what could I use to prevent it from being greasy but remain pumpable?
Thanks!

The beeswax is what thickens it and makes it a lotion texture. You could try carnauba wax but it wouldn’t be the same consistency.

Just made this recipe and it was fun and easy! I love how soft and nourished it made my skin feel. It starts out greasy, but once your skin has absorbed it after a few minutes, you are left with soft subtle skin.

This recipe is perfect! It really feels like lotion. I used Grapeseed, Shea and Beeswax. I halved it, in order to see if it would come out right.

Thanks so much!

Hi,

I made this over the weekend for a friend’s birthday, and he loves it. I was shocked by the outcome. It really feels like lotion!!! I halved it, because I wanted to see if he’ll like it. I didn’t add any oils, because he works with a lady that doesn’t like scents. Such is life. Thanks so much for sharing the recipe.

Almond oil is heavier than grapeseed so it can take longer to absorb. Rosehip is an astringent oil so you might want to add some of that with the grapeseed oil too. I would do 1 TBSP rosehip seed oil and only 15 TBSP grapeseed. Mango butter is drier than shea butter so if you use shea it’s going to feel greasier. What one person feels is “greasy” though may not be “greasy” to the next person because of different skin types, climate/humidity, etc. Conventional lotions use a lot of synthetic ingredients and/or a high water content to make a very fast absorbing product, so this will feel different than the typical store-bought version.

It came out super greasy for me as well. I used almond oil instead of grapeseed oil. Is using grapeseed oil the trick to making it truly be “non-greasy”?

It doesn’t really increase in volume, the whipping just makes it creamy and well blended. The recipe makes just shy of 12 ounces so a 12 oz jar should work.

Did you use grapeseed oil and mango butter? The shea butter and almond oil make for a heavier lotion while mango butter is more astringent. Did you use 3 TBSP of beeswax or just 2?

Hi there! I just found your recipe and it looks fantastic! I was wondering how much in volume the lotion makes after whipping it. I need to know what size jar to get. Thanks so much.

This came out too thin and greasy. I added arrowroot to it, but its still greasy. I followed the recipe to a tee.

I am in the south and I am wondering if the ‘male’ version of the lotion, would be the better one to use. Usually I have to add more beeswax to my Solid Lotion sticks. Thanks for doing the research. I have been waiting to try a lotion recipe that did not contain water. Regards

It was probably in how fast it cooled with the beeswax. Cooling it in the fridge next time should help avoid this.

I like the lotion! I was excited to have one that I could actually pump. My question, however, is the texture is grainy. It dissolves as you rub it into your skin, but it’s disconcerting. Any idea what went wrong that led to the grainy texture?

Is there a trick to getting the lotion IN a pump bottle? Does it flow pretty well or do you use some sort of device to help you transfer it? Funnel? Syringe?
