Thank you for the easy to follow recipe and for not making me go on a hunting trip through your opinions or your deepest thoughts because you really need a therapist but decided to write a blog on dog treats instead! I’m going to add turmeric and homemade CBD oil to these. My dog needs pain medication and I worry about giving him NSAIDS because they cause significant cases stomach ulcers and heart failure that kills about 16,500 people and hospitalize 100,000 each year and they’re no kinder top fido just no stats kept! So after reading that turmeric & a bit of black pepper was proven as effective I’m going to try to help him without killing him the inhuman way!

My boxer dog loved them!! She preferred these treats over the blue buffalo salmon treats she usually has. I Will definitely make again.

I know this thread is a few years old but i came across it while looking for dog treat recipes that include spirulina….anyway….i felt the need to inform you that coconut oil is actually really bad for your pets health….topically its fine for fur and certain skin conditions but ingesting it opens them up to several health issues including CHF, weight gain, atherosclerosis, and a fatty liver among others. Same with bacon grease. If its not healthy for you its certainly not healthy for your pooch.

I tried it with the bacon grease (as I was having BLTs for lunch – a win-win situation as far as grease disposal) and coconut. I skipped the gelatin. He enjoys these treats and I am amused as his poo has a slight orange tinge to it.

In reply to Lisa.

That’s how I got through the puppy years…frozen carrots. Better carrots than chair legs…the couch…the screen door…the corners of every wall in my house. It took a few weeks to find the carrots worked. 😉
Great recipe!

No–it’s too salty and may cause kidney problems in animals!

This looks like a good treat for my little yorkshire terriers so thank you! I am going to try it with pumpkin puree has someone suggested in the comments and see how it turns out.

The eco footprint of using coconut oil for everything is quite disturbing to me so I am doing my best to use less of it even though we like it around our house too.

I can’t find any good info on the web – every homemade recipe says to feed the homemade food IN ADDITION to a commercial “lab block” to “make sure they get a balanced diet.” (These lab blocks are basically animal by-products and low-grade soy; they are only “balanced” because they have a multivitamin/mineral mix ADDED.)
I’m sure I can feed my girls well on the same good local, organic, grass fed eggs and meat and bones and veggies that we eat, but I don’t want to re-invent the wheel, so chatting to anyone who’s BTDT would be great, thanks!

Paleo Coconut Banana Dog Cookies

Ingredients

1 banana
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup coconut flour
1 egg

Procedure

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper
Mash the banana with a spoon, potato masher, or you hands ( do not purée it otherwise the mixture will become to runny) NOTE: the banana should be slightly lumpy
Stir in the coconut oil
Add the coconut flour
Whisk the egg in a separate bowl and then stir it in with the rest of the mixture
Use a cookie scooper to scoop equal portions onto your baking sheet
Bake for 10 minutes ( the cookies should still be slightly soft and crumbly.)

In reply to Brittany.

Bacon grease is not a good alternative as it is very high in trans fats and salt, and can lead to pancreatitis in dogs. Its about as good for them as it is for them. Its a shame really, as they just love it!
