There’s really not enough SPF protection in the other ingredients to make much of a difference. This article explains it further. https://wellnessmama.com/beauty/sandalwood-tanning-oil/

It’s hard to say without knowing the quality of the ingredients you used. The recipe contains links to the ingredients Wellness Mama recommends. Natural sunscreen does need to be applied more often than conventional sunscreen though.

That would probably help.

Unrefined coconut oil does have a cocount smell. And the recipe contains links to the recommended raspberry and carrot seed oils.

You can omit the essential oils. If you consult with a holistic healthcare provider they should be able to give advice on your specific situation and offer help for your skin.

I also bought some Hyaluronic acid powder, been looking at different suggests for serum but would it be possible to add it to homemade suntan lotion? Thanks for your time, much appreciated ?

Do you have to add essential oils? My face is so inflamed painful and rash despite two dermatologists and all rx ointments. No one knows what’s wrong with my skin other than Allergic reactions.ty so much

It might feel a little greasier, but shea butter will work.

Your comment is laughable, Kim! ??? Have you ever researched and studied ingredients? Ask your “medical professionals” that same question.
You are just brainwashed. Keep worshipping your lord and savior big pharma and their quacks!

Also, would unrefined coconut oil still smell like coconut? I kind of like that part of traditional sunscreens.
Thank you

You can just omit it. The zinc oxide does the heavy lifting here.

Thanks so much for sharing this! I just made my first batch, and it seems to have turned out well. Quick question about storage! I know it needs to be away from direct light and heat, but, should I store it in an opaque container (versus clear glass)? Do you know if that would make a significant difference to its longevity?

Unfortunately, after 3 hours on the beach, it didn’t work at all. I’m all red.
Any ideas why?
I got all the ingredients on iherb.

Should I decrease the amount of essential oils in it when using on toddlers and if so, by how much?

You have said that’s the SPF because of the zinc content.
What would be the totally SPF?
As avocado oil, coconut oil, Shea, all have a lil SPF protection. Shea can be around 5-7 , coconut oil 1-4, etc.
Shouldn’t that raise the total protection? Thank you!

Making this today

Time to make a new batch and can’t find a good quality red raspberry seed oil. I ran out of the one I used to make the sunscreen last summer. The new ones I have tried have all caused eczema. Do you think argan oil would be ok to use in the place of the raspberry oil? I live in Florida and I’m always in the sun at the beach during this time of year. I want something that works as well as last years batch. If there is anything else you suggest replacing it with please let me know. Thanks for your help!

You mentioned that I can double the amount of Zinc Oxide in the recipe above for a higher SPF. Just making sure that is an ok thing to do.

Thank you and I love this recipe so much!!!
