Naval Officer, I have cruised the major oceans and seas of the world. I can honestly state that I was NEVER out of sight of visible floating trash, most of which was plastic, oil slicks and who knows what else! And I defy anyone to stroll along any beach without the same experience. Personal experience and reasoning have guided me away from sea salt in favor of quality pink salt which was deposited millions of years before human contamination.

Agree that some pink salt may be an issue only because AI gave the amounts of microplastics and pink salt was highest….

I wouldn’t know how to determine which brands are the most reputable

I’m really disappointed though that there’s no mention of how to help stop the plastic pollution. All of us taking care of our own bodies and not helping solve the world problem won’t work for anyone in the long run. I’d like my grandchildren to be able to buy any salt and any food and not have to worry about micro plastics. Couldn’t you add a paragraph or two connecting your readers to organizations working to reduce pollution for everyone?

‘Pink Himalayan Salt or salt from other ancient sources, like Redmond, are popular, natural options. Many people prefer these salts sourced from ancient sea beds deep within the Himalayas. They’re far removed from the pollution of modern oceans and often come with minimal processing. These are also said to contain up to 80 trace minerals that are beneficial for your body.’
actually.. it must be known.. that himalayan salt does not come from the himalayas. it comes from pakistan. i talked with two people from nepal recently and mentioned himalayan salt to them.. thinking it came from their country. they corrected me. and after that i did my research.. and.. yes.. it is from pakistan.
and some of it is said to have levels of heavy metals that may be above what is considered safe.

Tamara uses her own testing standards that often do not reflect the industry standards from professionals in that field. There are some who have called into question these methods. Ultimately each consumer has to do their own research and decide what they’re comfortable with! From what I’ve read of her work Tamara only recommends refined salt, not salt with natural minerals in it. Katie though does use and recommend natural salt like Himalayan, real salt, etc. for their trace mineral content. Redmond addresses some of the lead concerns here. https://kb.redmond.life/is-there-lead-in-real-salt

That includes Real Salt, and she’s done tests on several different kinds of salt, pink or otherwise.

I also like Oryx Desert Salt and Colima Sea Salt. Check them out. I’m a firm believer in quality salt!
